The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. a 2026 update

Hello all!

I apologize for the obvious lack of reviews in recent months. I am still very active on Goodreads and share quick, two-ish paragraph reviews of the books I read now rather than spending time writing full-length reviews (due to the traumas and demands of UC Berkeley). I am also transferring over to Substack (slowly) and while I am not sure about the future status of iRead, I encourage you to check out my Substack, as I am more active and more comprehensive over there! I write about music, literature, and life, all on ONE website!

Thank you for everyone who's been here since 2016 or who's found me along the way. This blog has been a 9/10 year compendium of every book I've read, and my various thoughts about each of them. I have not stopped reading, by any means, but I have briefly interrupted my reviews. I might do a favorite book wrap-up for 2024 and 2025 here but no promises. I also do hope to return to active book reviewing upon entering the next phase of my life (aka post-grad...) but no promises as well!
