The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. The Woman in Me - Britney Spears

The Woman in Me by Britney Spears
Genre: Memoir

Blurb (on back of book): The Woman in Me is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.

In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.

Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

MY OPINION: ****

Psst... I'm back!!!

It's very hard for me to rate memoirs, since they are obviously deeply personal to the person writing them. I will say that I did not know a lot about Britney Spears, as her prime was when I was still a child, but this book was very eye-opening in learning about her career, her conservatorship, and her life in general. 2021 was a huge year for her court case and her first time truly being able to speak her truth, and I am glad that she found a place through writing to further tell her story to audiences.

I listened to this on audiobook with Britney herself reading the book, so it felt very personable. I could hear and feel her pain more clearly as she detailed the abuse and mental torture she went through. I felt inspired to search up the performances she referenced or the songs she produced, since I was never a huge Britney fan.

I'd definitely recommend this book to people interested in learning more about her life and the experiences she went through all the way up until now.
