The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. The Fury - Alex Michaelides

The Fury by Alex Michaelides
Genre: Thriller

Blurb (on back of book): A masterfully paced thriller about a reclusive ex–movie star and her famous friends whose spontaneous trip to a private Greek island is upended by a murder ― from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient.
This is a tale of murder.
Or maybe that’s not quite true. At its heart, it’s a love story, isn’t it?
Lana Farrar is a reclusive ex–movie star and one of the most famous women in the world. Every year, she invites her closest friends to escape the English weather and spend Easter on her idyllic private Greek island.
I tell you this because you may think you know this story. You probably read about it at the time ― it caused a real stir in the tabloids, if you remember. It had all the necessary ingredients for a press a celebrity; a private island cut off by the wind…and a murder.
We found ourselves trapped there overnight. Our old friendships concealed hatred and a desire for revenge. What followed was a game of cat and mouse ― a battle of wits, full of twists and turns, building to an unforgettable climax. The night ended in violence and death, as one of us was found murdered.
But who am I?
My name is Elliot Chase, and I’m going to tell you a story unlike any you’ve ever heard.

MY OPINION: ***

I've read all of the big Alex Michaelides books now and I think this was my least favorite. I generally am not the hugest fan of thrillers but a good one can really draw me in and intrigue me. Alas, this was not one.

If we are being so honest, I remember nothing about this book, as I read it over a year ago in a singular day. However, I also remember that after finishing the book, I also did not truly remember anything about it. So, I think that says enough.

I remember every single character was annoying and that the plot twist was not that good. The narrator did a poor job of fulfilling his one responsibility (narration). While I know it's because he's supposed to be an unreliable narrator, it gets to a point where you are just an unreliable person in general. The ending was very punch in the gut and tried to sum everything up way too fast. I think the main issue for me was pacing.

Still, if you enjoy a thriller or Michaelides's writing, this was still fun and a pageturner. I'd recommend but go into it with a grain of salt.
