The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. He wants her back? He'll have to work for it. This time around, she'll be the one in the driver's seat...and she plans on driving him wild.

MY OPINION: ***

I apparently forgot to review this book and I just posted the review to the book after this so that's a bit awkward. Since I read it a while ago, it'll be a short review!

I liked the premise of this book and I was super excited to read it after having finished The Deal and loving that. The book focuses on the love story between John Logan and Grace Ivers, two very different characters who were perfectly made for each other!

Logan is Garrett's best friend and popular hockey player. He also happens to have an obsession with Garrett's girlfriend, Hannah Wells (Garrett and Hannah are both the stars of The Deal!), which he's been struggling to deal with. He sort of goes through a player phase in which he gets with as many girls as possible in his attempt to get over Hannah, which hasn't been working very well. Then, by accident, he happens to walk into Grace Iver's room and meets a charming, babbling, adorable freshman girl. They watch a movie together and the night soon becomes a lot more interesting.

Grace is still a virgin and has just entered college. She is a bit tentative about the college lifestyle of sex, drinking, partying, etc. However, she's instantly attracted to Logan, the hot hockey player who's known for being good with women. After a fun night together, they start up a little something but soon end it after Logan does something asshole-y (though I can't honestly remember what it was). At the same time, Grace's best friend, Ramona, backstabs her (basically) and Grace loses her "boyfriend" (not really a boyfriend?) and her best friend in the same week.

A year later, Grace is now a sophomore and Logan wants her back. Grace is reluctant to reenter a relationship with Logan and gives him a list of ridiculous tasks to fulfill to prove that he will be a good boyfriend. In the end, they obviously end up dating and starting a relationship. Grace and Ramona sort of make up but the friendship will never be the same.

Throughout the book, Logan has to deal with his father's alcoholism and the end of his future as he is forced to take over his father's business and give up his NHL dreams. I hated how Logan felt like he had nothing going for him and loved that Grace helped him to see just how amazing he truly was. I did dislike Logan's dad because alcoholic or not, the least he could do is try to do better. I liked the ending but I think the whole father trope was just annoying and irritated me to no end.

Overall, this wasn't my favorite of the series but it definitely wasn't bad. i would recommend it to readers looking for a cute romance novel that will get you out of a reading slump!
