The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. The Gentleman's Guide to Getting Lucky - Mackenzi Lee

The Gentleman's Guide to Getting Lucky by Mackenzi Lee
Genre: YA Historical Fiction

Amazon.com: The Gentleman's Guide to Getting Lucky (Montague Siblings Novella) (9780062967169): Lee, Mackenzi: BooksBlurb (on back of book): “The queer teen historical you didn’t know was missing from your life.” — Teen Vogue, on The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue
In this funny and frothy novella that picks up where the New York Times bestselling The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue leaves off, freshly minted couple Monty and Percy fumble through their first time together.
Monty’s epic grand tour may be over, but now that he and Percy are finally a couple, he realizes there is something more nerve-wracking than being chased across Europe: getting together with the person you love.
Will the romantic allure of Santorini make his first time with Percy magical, or will all the anticipation and build-up completely spoil the mood?

MY OPINION: *****

I used to dislike the idea of novellas and how they felt randomly thrust into series just to extend it a bit more. However, I loved this one and am unbelievably grateful that it was published and exposed to the world. I only tolerate novellas if I actually like the main series, I've found, and I loved this story.

The writing is so beautiful, even during the humorous and playful scenes. I love Monty and everything about him and I loved seeing how the relationship between Monty and Percy was developing in this novella.

I loved seeing the relationship between Monty and Felicity grow as they bonded more and actually carried out real conversations. I loved the relationship advice she gave to Monty because he really needed it! I also love Felicity and her character and I'm unbelievably excited for the next book which is Felicity's story.

The whole book was adorable and awkward and everything I was hoping for from a Monty novella. The plot centers around Percy and Monty's first time making love but it managed to be the most wholesome and adorable book you can get about a couple's first time. It's not graphic or lewd or anything like that and instead focuses more on the love between two people and how much pressure these feelings can put on a couple who are trying to make love for the first time.

I liked how this book focused on how Monty had previously only had meaningless hook-ups and how his feelings for Percy changed his view on sex. Percy was a virgin and I liked how they approached the topic of virginity and taking things slow and making sure everything was okay. CONSENT. The book highly focused on consent which I loved because a lot of young adult novels these days forget to stress the importance of consent in a relationship.

Overall, I was extremely happy with how this novella turned out and would highly recommend reading it for more amazing and adorable/awkward content between Monty and Percy!
