The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.
And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.
But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can't stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.
Falling for Katy—a human—won't just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen...

MY OPINION: ****

Obsidian is the first book in the Lux series and Onyx is the second book in the Lux series and this book is right in between.

It's Daemon's perspective of the entire first book and while I thought it was going to be a novella (i.e. shorter) it was a full length novel that I ended up really enjoying.

I generally don't read the "in-between" books in series or the novellas but I accidentally placed it on hold in my library and I thought, "I have it so why not read it?"

Honestly, I might have liked this book better than the real first book. Only because of Daemon though.

I think I would love the series that much more if all the books had been told from Daemon's POV. His thoughts seemed a lot more real which was surprising because I never thought Daemon was going to be the "touchy-feely" guy when it comes to emotions and feelings and thoughts.

Daemon is sarcastic, sardonic, and honestly hilarious. I loved his every reaction to the little things that Katy did, which although it was a little... possessive, was sweet-ish and everything he did was honestly done in good intentions. I loved how his "love" for Katy grew throughout the book and we all knew that his attempts to push his feelings away were never going to work.

I loved the added conversations with Dee or the Thompson triplets (who I honestly hated more than ever, even Adam, though I kinda feel bad)

I loved how this book was written and I would read more from Daemon's POV!

I would recommend this book to readers looking for an interesting fantasy/scifi/romance series!
