The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Blurb (on back of book): NO ONE IS LIKE DAEMON BLACK.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something I'll do again, and now that we've made it through the rough patches, well... There's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we're stronger... and they know it.

MY OPINION: *****

I just want to say that I kind of cried while reading this book. Not full on tears but if the book had been a page or two longer...

Is that normal for me? No.

This series honestly keeps getting better and I am currently in possession of the next book and am dying to open it. However, I need to write this review before the month ends...

The choices I have to make.

The feels in this book were beyond powerful and it drew such emotion from me that I haven't experienced from a book in a very long time. JLA continues to write impeccably, making every character real with their own personalities and traits and mannerisms that everybody falls in love with or despises.

Daemon was extraordinary, as usual. He was snarky and sarcastic but in this book specifically, he really showed his "soft" side and started opening up to Katy. I loved everything about him and can I just say, the ending was HORRIBLE. His reactions were SO SAD.

Katy was still a little oblivious to her surroundings and the very OBVIOUS clues that the characters around her leave for her but other than that, I think she slightly matured. She's definitely stronger physically, and her love for Daemon grows and expands throughout this series. I love seeing the changes her character has made throughout this book and am excited to see more. After reading the cliffhanger though, I really hope she's okay (well, obviously she is because this is a YA Fantasy series but still).

Ash was likable (slightly). Okay, that's a lie. However, I think that she changed enough so that I didn't hate her as much as before. Blake, I still hated. That dude needs to burn. Agh, I can't even talk about it for risks of spoilers and whatnot but Blake, I swear.

Dee really went through an entire character change which I really was interested in watching. It really showed how grief can change a person almost entirely until they are unrecognizable. Gone was the bubbly Dee and here was the moody, rude, and depressed Dee who became friends with the "mean girl" of the book and overall, was not the best.

There were a lot of random things that happened in this book and it felt like things were happening left and right. However, I felt that the action was nicely balanced with the romance and character development and whatnot, which is always a plus for me.

The writing was beautiful, as usual. I would say that the editing needed to have been done a little better because I found more than a few typos. However, this is not the author's fault and I'm not saying it as a bad thing, just that it could be checked over a bit.

Okay, I'm going to end it here. I know this is a short review but I want to read the next book.

I would recommend this book to readers looking for a book with romance, action, suspense, and a thrilling kick-to-the-chest cliffhanger.
