The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Every Last Breath - Jennifer L Armentrout

Every Last Breath by Jennifer L Armentrout
Genre: YA Fantasy

Blurb (on back of book): Some loves will last ’til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

MY OPINION: ****

What a nice conclusion to such a beautiful series!

I'm sad it's over and it's definitely something I'm planning on rereading this entire series at some point in my life. I want to own my own copies as soon as possible but for now...

THE REVIEW

I was sorely disappointed with the final ending to this series because I felt it was so rushed and didn't give that YA Fantasy Series Finale thing that readers have come to expect from YA fantasy novels. I don't know if that was just me but I feel like everything happened really fast.

Also, I don't know if this counts as spoilers but considering it starts at the beginning of the book, I'm just going to say it:

THIS WHOLE BOOK WAS TEAM ROTH

Ordinarily, I would have been SOOOO happy about my ship sailing in the last book because obviously that means that they're going to end up together. HOWEVER, my main problem was:

THEY ENDED UP TOGETHER AT THE BEGINNING

Yes, I understand that he saved her life and she realized that she loved him more than she loved Zayne and that it was always going to be him but still.

I WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED THE TENSION BETWEEN TWO EGOTISTICAL MUSCULAR PRETTY TERRITORIAL MEN

The first book was TEAM ROTH and a little bit of TEAM ZAYNE
The second book was TEAM ZAYNE
This book was TEAM ROTH TEAM ROTH TEAM ROTH right off the bat

Where was the "but I love you, Layla-bug" from our Zayne and the "NO BUT I LOVE HER MORE" from Roth???

ANYWAYS, moving on from that..

This entire book was a satisfying-enough ending. I wish there had been more Zayne, more conflict (though I suppose the Lilin was enough) and a better explanation for Layla being alive. I think the best that can happen now is for ANOTHER book to come out.

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the Crown Prince, Astaroth.

I would recommend this book to readers looking for a thrilling, romantic, fantasy read!

Main Character: Layla
Sidekick(s): Roth, Zayne, Cayman, etc
Villain(s): Lilin, Lilith, etc
Fantasy Elements: This book was based on fanatic elements.
