The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Blurb (on back of book): WHEN SILENCE IS ALL THAT'S LEFT, CAN THE TRUTH FINALLY BE HEARD?
Nora Grey can't remember the past five months of her life. After the initial shock of waking up in a cemetery and being told that she has been missing for weeks - with no one knowing where she was or who she was with - she tried to get her life back on track. Go to school, hang out with her best friend, Vee, and dodge mom's creepy new boyfriend.
But there is this voice in the back of her head, an idea that she can almost reach out and touch. Visions of angel wings and unearthly creatures that have nothing to do with the life she knows.
And this unshakable feeling that a part of her is missing.
Then Nora crosses paths with a sexy stranger, whom she feels a mesmerizing connection to. He seems to hold all the answers...and her heart. Every minute she spends with him grows more and more intense until she realizes she could be falling in love. Again.

MY OPINION: ***

This is the third book in the Hush, Hush series. I haven't exceptionally loved this series but I've stuck with it because I'm interested in seeing how it is going to end.

This may have been my favorite of the series, though there were things about it that really ticked me off. The second book ended at such a cliffhanger/plot twist and I was excited to see how it was going to go on. In this book, however, we start months later with our main character, Nora Grey, with amnesia. She can't remember the last five months of her life. Through this book, we have to re-explain everything that happened in the previous books which I found almost tiring. Her lack of knowledge about everything in her world seriously ticked me off.

Nora is not the smartest character. She, as per usual, proceeds to make completely dumb decisions throughout this book. For example:

-She wakes up in a graveyard and is convinced that the one person that is trying to help her is crazy and proceeds to attack said person.

-After being MISSING for three months, she worries her mother even more. Upon returning from the hospital, she decides to SNEAK out without telling anyone and go back to the GRAVEYARD in the dead of night. Alone.

-She is instantly trusting of guys who claim to have known her before. SCOTT and JEV (Patch) may be great characters but maybe she should have been a bit more cautious. LIKE ANYONE CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU AND YOUR OBVIOUS MEMORY LOSS

-She finds herself drawn to Jev and trusts him willingly even when he says things like:

Nora: "I'll throw on some clothes. Turn around. I'm in my pj's."
AND THEN PATCH, instead of doing the GENTLEMANLY thing to do LIKE TURNING AROUND, proceeds to say,
"I'm a guy. That's like asking a kid not to glance at the candy counter."
AND SO BEGAN MY DISLIKE FOR PATCH (WHO I LOVED BEFORE)

-Nora is kind of a jerk to her friends. She constantly brings up Vee's weight and accuses her of eating junk food and doughnuts. She fat-shames her best friend?? UM, NO!

And then we have the rest of the story. A lot happened in this book and I can't wait for the last book. I would like to finish the series but I really hope that Nora matures at least somewhat before heading off into a war. The writing in this book was interesting and I liked how it jumped around from description to dialogue. I would recommend this book to readers looking for a fantasy/romance/angel quartet.

Main Character: Nora
Sidekick(s): Patch, Vee, Scott, etc
Villain(s): The Black Hand, Hank, Gabe, etc
Fantasy Elements: This book was all fanatic, from the species of characters to abilities these characters possessed.
