To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
Genre: YA Realistic Fiction
Blurb (on back of book):
What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them… all at once?
Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.
MY OPINION: ******
This is my third time reading this book and I loved it just as much as ever.
The movie is coming out in a couple of months and I wanted to refresh my memory on everything that happened and I just realized again how much I absolutely love this book.
The writing is just so compelling and interesting and it's not at all boring. I really love everything about Jenny Han's writing: her characters, her setting, her dialogue. Everything.
Many people hate how Lara Jean is "immature" but I appreciated that because I feel like when I get to be an older teenager, I'm going to still act like a little kid and need help and all the things that Lara Jean is going through. I think that before when I read the book, I disliked her character because of her innocence but now I think that it really helped me understand her character and I liked her personality a lot more.
I think that Margot and Lara Jean's relationship was really strong in the beginning of the book but as the story went on, their relationship slowly faded. Once Margot came back, I thought that things were tense and weird and I did not like it at all.
PETER. CAN I EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN THE GOD THAT IS PETER KAVINSKY. He is honest, he is brave, he is strong, he is actually capable of human emotion, and he's not a stereotypical creepy stalker guy that is so common in books these days. The ONE thing that I did not like about Peter was his feelings for Gen. He is a little too trusting towards her because she is so obviously not a good person!
Kitty was a fiesty little girl that I hated at first and then grew to love. She was strong, she could hold a grudge, she was hilarious, she was extreme. I loved her character and I thought that she was the most grownup out of Lara Jean and herself.
Josh. I don't know how I felt about him. I thought he seemed OLD and I thought that because of that, Lara Jean and he did not fit well together. Maybe it's because of Peter and his amazing-Peter-ness but still. Josh just didn't agree with me. Though he was an amicable character.
So many things happened in this book and I love it so much and I know this is a super short review but I have to end it there! I would recommend it to EVERYONE.
