The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. The Gollywhopper Games: Friend or Foe by Jody Feldman
Genre: J Adventure/Realistic Fiction

Blurb (on back of book): Everyone loves the Gollywhopper Games!
Everyone except Zane. What Zane cares about is football. He dreams of heading straight for the NFL... until he gets his second concussion. Now his parents say no football for a year.
Then along comes the Games — a chance to solve puzzles and riddles, win a million dollars, and show up on TV. Zane will need speed, smarts, and strategy. He'll face tougher rivals than he ever did on a football field. Does he still have what it takes to win when he's playing a whole new game?
Are you ready for action that never quits and surprises and brainteasers at every turn? Then let the Games begin!

MY OPINION: ****

This book was, again, just not as good as the first one. It is a step up from the second one, but it still did not have the same action. I also didn't like how the old characters are basically just minors. I think that there should be a fourth book about just a reunion with everyone, winning and losing contestants.

This book was still pretty interesting. Again, I liked solving the puzzles before the characters did. I also liked reading about how they did it, and thinking about the differences between my strategy from theirs, if there was any.

Overall, this book was disappointing compared to the first one. I would recommend this book to middle-schoolers and fifth-graders. I would also recommend it to people who like to solve puzzles.

Main Character: Zane
Sidekick(s): Elijah
Villain(s): Jenkins
Adventure/Realistic Fiction Elements: This could happen in real life, though it most likely will not. This book is very real to life.
