The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. MY OPINION: *****

I really loved this book!

Another friend of mine recommended this book to me. I started reading it and I loved it!

I loved solving the puzzles in the book, and reading about how the characters found their solutions. Most of the time, the puzzles were easy to answer, but some were really difficult in a way, since you have to think outside of the box.

This book vaguely reminded me of another book, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library (which will be reviewed shortly), since both involve kids having to solve puzzles and games to win a certain prize. But this book is also different since it has a very unique plot and many interesting characters.

Though the ending is pretty obvious, I liked reading about how the characters solved their puzzles, etc. I really enjoyed reading this book, and plan to read the sequel as soon as possible!

Overall, this was a really good book fit for fifth-, sixth-, and possibly seventh-graders!

Main Character: Gil Goodson
Sidekick(s): Bianca LaBlanc, Lavinia, Thorn
Villain(s): Rocky, Thorn (at a point)
Adventure/Realistic Fiction Elements: All of this could happen in real life (in a way), though it most likely never will. It would be amazing, though!
