The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Genre: YA Realistic Fiction

Blurb (on back of book): Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

MY OPINION: ******

I will never not love this book and that's a fact. I first read this book around three years ago and I have been obsessed ever since. This is my fifth or sixth time reading it, because I really needed something to get my mind off of finals which are in a couple of weeks. Obviously, I stayed up till all hours of the night reading this book and am almost done with the second.

This is still one of my favorite books to date. Yes, there are things that I would change, most specifically the short writing style, but I love this book so much.

Belly is still childish and immature, and even though people don't like that, you should try meeting some of the people that are my age. You will soon realize that this is a very realistic picture of some fifteen year olds.

Conrad. Still brooding and beautiful. I have a special place in my bookish heart for Conrad forever and ever. He is still one of my favorite literary characters to date.

Jeremiah. I still love him as usual. The light, buoyant characters are always the best ones.

Poor Cam.

I still cry every time. hehehe

Love love love. I would recommend this book to everyone looking for a cute romantic, summer read.
