The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Blurb (on back of book): I’ve become an expert at avoiding things that could hurt me—which means I will figure out how to stay away from Marco Leone.
Seventeen-year-old Frankie Devereux would do anything to forget the past. Haunted by the memory of her boyfriend’s death, she lives her life by one dangerous rule: Nothing matters. At least, that’s what Frankie tells herself after a reckless mistake forces her to leave her privileged life in the Heights to move in with her dad—an undercover cop. She transfers to a public high school in the Downs, where fistfights don’t faze anyone and illegal street racing is more popular than football.
Marco Leone is the fastest street racer in the Downs. Tough, sexy, and hypnotic, he makes it impossible for Frankie to ignore him—and how he makes her feel. But the risks Marco takes for his family could have devastating consequences for them both. When Frankie discovers his secret, she has to make a choice. Will she let the pain of the past determine her future? Or will she risk what little she has left to follow her heart?

MY OPINION: ******

It's been a pretty long time since I last read a six-star book. I was tempted to just leave it at a five but because of the fact that I was left with a huge HOLE or a LOSS in my body and heart and soul after finishing this book.

I loved this book so much. There are so many things that I want to say but I think it would be better to just have a shorter, succinct review.

It's going to be hard.

I first want to talk about Frankie. I thought that at the beginning, she was that girl who was willing to QUIT. She just wanted to find a way to get rid of the pain and the agony over losing her boyfriend and friend, Noah. She made some mistakes and some bad choices to try to feel better about her life and herself and get over the unneeded and unwanted guilt over Noah. As the story moved on and she met new people who quickly became new friends and she got back together with old friends and she met Marco (THE BEST GUY ON EARTH), she realizes that she DOES have something to live for and try for and not give up for.

I thought that Frankie annoyed me because she was so WORRIED about everything. She never knew how to calm down. When she met Marco, she thought that she was going to lose him. Abel was just... ugh, I don't even know what to say. And Cruz and Lex just were something to worry about.

Marco. I LOVED HIM. As usual. He was just strangely beautiful and gorgeous and romantic. He was so obviously in love no matter how hard he tried to hide it and Frankie REFUSES to admit it!

Frankie's dad annoyed me more than any other character. <spoiler> WHO ARRESTS THEIR DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND AND SAYS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET HIM OUT IS TO BREAK UP AND THEN ACTUALLY ARRESTS HIM ANYWAY</spoiler>

This is a strangely short review but I've been trying to be shorter. I loved this book so much and it was definitely worth the six stars. I would recommend this book to YA romance readers!

Main Character: Frankie
Sidekick(s): Marco, Lex, Cruz, etc
Villain(s): Death, Deacon, etc
Realistic Fiction Elements: This book was all very real to life.
