The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. It’s been a shattering year for seventeen-year-old Zoe, who’s still reeling from her father's shockingly sudden death in a caving accident and her neighbors’ mysterious disappearance from their own home. Then on a terrifying sub-zero, blizzardy night in Montana, she and her brother are brutally attacked in a cabin in the woods—only to be rescued by a mysterious bounty hunter they call X.
X is no ordinary bounty hunter. He is from a hell called the Lowlands, sent to claim the soul of Zoe’s evil attacker and others like him. X is forbidden from revealing himself to anyone other than his prey, but he casts aside the Lowlands’ rules for Zoe. As they learn more about their colliding worlds, they begin to question the past, their fate, and their future.

MY OPINION: *****

I read this book in a day. It was fast, it was fun, it was amazing.

This book was due at my library so I had to finish it as fast as I could. I love this book so much!

The characters weren't as well-developed as I'm used to but I actually appreciated that because it was unique and different from books that I'm used to. I'm getting sick of characters that "fit the mold" and I thought that these characters were SO different.

X was sweet and amazing and I loved his character. I thought he seemed innocent but he was ALSO strong and fierce and brave. It's hard to explain unless you read the book :D

I need to read the next book!

Zoe was a very determined character in this book and I thought that her willingness to do anything to save her little brother, Jonah, was admirable and sweet and something that we should look for in a character and in a real life person. She was also very romantic and adorable though at some points, she seemed clingy.

Jonah was the most adorable thing alive and I cannot even imagine how sweet (and incredibly annoying) it must be to have a little brother! I have a little sister but that's different.

BANGER WAS THE BEST THING ON EARTH HE WAS SO FUNNY HE WAS LIKE A KENJI

This whole book and its premise was complicated and long and I thought that at some points, it could have been written better. I thought it was fast paced and missing some elements. However, I loved it and I want the next book!!

I would recommend this book to people who like a fast-paced romantic, almost fantasy adventure!

Main Character: Zoe, X
Sidekick(s): Jonah, Ripper, Banger, etc
Villain(s): Lords, etc
Fantasy Elements: There were some unreal things *like magic* in this book.
