The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

MY OPINION: *****

What a great finale to this trilogy about AMERICA. Yes, I do know there are two more books, but I am happy to have finished this trilogy about America Singer :)

Anyways, I loved reading this book! I enjoyed every page of it, even the boring stuff (there was none :)). This book had one of the greatest endings I have ever read!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

I can't not talk about the ending. IT WAS AMAZING, YET SAD.

Celeste dies!!!!! Oh my gosh, I just cannot believe it! It is so sad and terrible and I wish that this didn't have to end this way. Right when she was becoming a real friend *SNAPS FINGERS IN ANGER*

Anyways, Celeste dies after the rebels sneak into the castle, using dead guard's uniforms. THEY MURDERED THE GUARDS! Can you believe it?

Also, Maxon catches America in a very awkward moment with Aspen. Basically, Maxon and America had a very private moment, but Aspen walked in on them. America tries to explain to Aspen, angrily, after Maxon leaves, but Maxon walks in on them when America is rather close to him (IN HER ANGER). Then Maxon has this idea that America was cheating on him, and he promised he wouldn't marry her. THAT IS WHEN THE REBELS ATTACKED! Anyways, they make up and all if well and they get married, blah, blah, blah....

Aspen ends up with Lucy, despite Anne's feelings for him. Anne disappears, and Mary is the only one who stayed with America.

Last but not least, America's father dies.

I loved this book! The ending was interesting, the book was interesting, the characters were interesting.

Does anyone else feel that Mary is a little neglected in this book? I am happy she got such a good ending.

Lastly, I cried while reading this book! I need to spoil because it doesn't really make sense if I don't, so sorry people! America's father dies! I cried so hard after America gets the letter from him. I haven't cried over a book for seven years!

Anyways, THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING, and you should definitely read it after you finish the two parts of the beginning.

I would recommend it to middle-schoolers.
