The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Bonus Summer Reading Challenge #11: A comic book / graphic novel

I’m currently on vacation but it’s been over a week since I finished this book so I’m going to write a really quick review.

I’m not the biggest fan of graphic novels because I find it hard to focus on both the pictures and the words at the same time because I tend to skip over details in images.

However, this book was a fun enjoyable read that I would read again. It’s very short but it fit in a lot of imagination and creativity into such a short book.

The basis of the book is original and unique and, quite frankly, weird. I’m not going to go too into it because I don’t remember everything and you can read the blurb but I did like the idea of a cardboard world because it was one of the strangest things I’ve ever read.

I also enjoyed seeing how the power that you have can be used for good and bad and also how it will always backfire on you in the end.

I would recommend this book to readers looking for a fun and imaginative graphic novel.

Main Character: The kids (don’t remember their names)
Sidekick(s): Father, cardboard, etc
Villain(s): The bad kid (don’t remember his name), etc
Fantasy Elements: This book is based on fake and imaginative elements.
