The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Bonus Summer Reading Challenge #16: A book that was made into a TV show

I watched the K-drama version of this manga first before reading this book, at the behest of my sister who is obsessed with everything Korean at the moment.

I don't remember names..

Anyways, I enjoyed reading this manga. As it's only volume one, it was very short and sweet and to the point. There were some differences between the book and the TV show version that I watched, but that's to be expected, and besides, this is the original so I can't fault it for anything.

I enjoyed figuring out who was who based on what I knew from beforehand from watching the show. The characters were all the same as in the show and I enjoyed reading the parts of it that I recognized from the show.

I am interested in continuing the series. While I don't focus on art, I can't say I was the biggest fan of the art style in this book, but I think it's because I just wasn't used to it because it was different from the mangas I've been reading.

I would recommend this book to readers looking for a fun and short manga.

Main Character: Makiko
Sidekick(s): Tsukushi, etc
Villain(s): Tsukusa, etc
