The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde - UPDATED REVIEW

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Genre : Classics Blurb (on back of book) : Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind. Blurb (on back of book): Nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts...
It was always difficult being Harry Potter, and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and a father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: Sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
Based on an original new story by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne. It is the eighth Harry Potter story and the first to be officially presented on stage. This special rehearsal edition of the script brings the continued journey of Harry Potter and his friends and family to readers everywhere immediately following the play's world premiere in London's West End on July 30, 2016.
The stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender, and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.

MY OPINION: *****

I have to be honest: I was not expecting a script out of this book at all.

This book was given to me as a surprise gift, and I started reading it a few days ago. It is absolutely amazing. It is so much fun to live through what the other characters are feeling, and very interesting to play the parts out loud with a friend or two.

I loved reading all about Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy, the two most unlikely friends, considering their parents. They had a really strong relationship that is so hard to find in another person. I think that J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne did a really good job of illustrating this friendship. Many things happened to test it, but it was strong and held out till the end.

This book was a very fun read for all Potter fans. It has many cliffhangers and very strong surprises that shocked me! Many things happened that I never would've thought of and it truly was an amazing story.

Albus is always trying to live up to his father's expectations in a way, but both he and Harry learn that everyone is different. Albus is placed into a different house, has different friends, and learns differently than his father. Many things test this father-son relationship, and things don't go so well for a while, until the end.

Scorpius is just a normal kid. He has a very complicated character, and it hard to explain here in this post. He also has a widely-known father, but for different reasons. Many things also test him, but he is brave and strong enough to pass these obstacles.

I would recommend this book to all Harry Potter fans, and to basically everyone who wants a good story, though it is much easier to understand if you read the first seven books, or watch the movies.

Main Character(s): Albus Potter, Scorpius Malfoy
Sidekick(s): Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Hermione Granger, Ronald Weasley, Delphi Diggory (in a way), Craig Bowker Jr., Polly Chapman, etc
Villain(s): Voldemort, Delphi (in a way), time, popularity
Fantasy/Adventure Elements: Unreal characters, settings, creatures. Follows a story of a mission of two boys.
